On April 15th, 2015, science fiction and film writer Ib Melchior passed away.

Mister Melchior has contributed significant entries to both cult cinema and the giant monster genre, as he was the man behind the screenplays for ”Angry Red Planet” (1959, also director), ”Reptilicus” (1961), ”Journey to the Seventh Planet” (1962), ”Robinson Crusoe on Mars” (1964), ”Planet of the Vampires” (1965), and many other films and short stories.

His brief action-horror prose, ”The Racer”, would become the basis for the wonderfully mean-spirited sci-fi satire ”Death Race 2000” (1975).

And Ib Melchior was also the writer for the abandoned American version of ”Godzilla Raids Again”, ”The Volcano Monsters” around 1957.

To honor the man who's given us so many bizarre, but wonderful beasts, we’re officially bringing back our monthly art jam, by having a salute to any of Ib Melchior’s works.

Go ahead and draw any of the giant monsters he helped create, or any other fan art connected to the films he wrote. We’ll feature said pieces across several DeviantART groups, in and beyond Kaijuden, depending on the drawn subject at hand.

Just please try to keep said works tasteful in nature and execution.

The Ib Melchior art jam ends May 31st (a Sunday night)

World of Monsters is a group dedicated to fantastical creatures, monsters and other non-human characters; mostly focusing on original works, but also accepting of fan art from across fiction. Unlike similar groups, I hope to encompass a wide variety of subject matter, and feature only completed or high end art work over rough sketches and altered screen captures.

What are your opinions about the newer batch of television shows & movies with their takes on making a good looking monster? Lately I've been noticing a lot more CG modeling and it feels really off putting on a lot of the things with that. In my personal opinion I prefer the actual physical monster like from Chucky, Fiend Without a Face, The Blob (1958), Alien, Etc.
It's really weird that although CG takes skill and is somewhat expensive it's the simple things that go a long way like in Alien and The Blob although it wasn't a simple effect but it was amazing and real was the bloody waterfall in the first Nightmare on Elm Street with Johnny Depp.

What are you thoughts on the more recent monster flicks being released and the use of CG?
Should at times it should be used or at times should not?

P.S. (Thanks for letting me join the group!)La la la la

Earlier this year I've watched the films 'Fiend Without a Face' and 'The X From Outer Space'.
They were both freaking amazing and I recommend anyone that reads this to watch them!I am a dummy!
